Wipro Launches Center of Excellence on Generative AI in Partnership with IIT Delhi 2023

The centre’s primary goal will be to fund fundamental and practical research in generative AI. It will also work on research and development initiatives and evaluate the commercial viability of concepts developed by Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence students at IIT Delhi.

In collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, the IT services provider Wipro announced the opening a new Centre of Excellence in Generative Artificial Intelligence. The centre’s primary goal will be to fund fundamental and practical research in generative AI.

It will also work on research and development initiatives and evaluate the commercial viability of concepts developed by Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence students at IIT Delhi.

The collaboration fits in with Wipro’s $1 billion pledge to promote and accelerate AI-led innovation as a component of the Wipro ai360 ecosystem. Subha Tatavarti, Chief Technology Officer of Wipro Limited, stated, “We are thrilled to join with IIT Delhi to stimulate faster innovation in some of the most interesting new fields of technology. This partnership will help us develop cutting-edge solutions to ongoing and new business issues. It will also improve our research and development skills in emerging fields like generative AI.

To solve at-scale real-world issues, the CoE will act as an R&D hub, bringing together Wipro researchers with ScAI faculty members and graduate students. Teams from Wipro CoE will collaborate to develop cutting-edge solutions utilizing AI, ML (machine learning), and other technologies.

Dr Ajay Chander, Head of Research & Development at Wipro Limited, stated, “Working with the distinguished and diversified faculty of IIT Delhi and its research partner ecosystem would help us realize our vision of Engineered Prosperity sooner.

The Yardi School of AI at IIT Delhi’s Professor Mausam continued, “By establishing this Centre of Excellence, our students will acquire invaluable insight into issues important to business and will see firsthand how their technical know-how translates to practical settings. Ultimately, our collaboration with Wipro will benefit both parties and substantially contribute to India’s progress in these critical new technological domains.

In a landmark move that signals the strengthening bond between academia and industry, global information technology, consulting, and business process services company Wipro has announced the launch of a Center of Excellence (CoE) on Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, one of India’s premier technical institutes.

The primary objective of this CoE is to promote research and development in the field of Generative AI. Generative AI refers to machine learning models, such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), capable of generating new, previously unseen data that resembles a given dataset. This CoE aims to develop cutting-edge solutions for various industries, including healthcare, finance, and manufacturing.

The collaboration will be a long-term partnership, where Wipro will invest in state-of-the-art computing infrastructure, research fellowships, and project funding at IIT Delhi. Conversely, the institute will provide academic expertise, research staff, and students to work on various projects under the CoE.

An essential component of the CoE will be its focus on education and talent development. Wipro and IIT Delhi will jointly develop a range of training programs, including workshops, seminars, and internships, aimed at upskilling students and professionals in the field of Generative AI.
