Apple started manufacturing iPhone 11 in Southern India

The luxurious tech device company, Apple has commenced the fabrication of high-end iPhone 11 smartphones at its Foxconn plant located in Chennai.

As per the recent reports, the company has planned to increase production in a phased manner. It has been thought that the units which will be manufactured in the Chennai plant could also be shipped to other different markets.

Apart from this, Apple is also planning to assemble the new iPhone SE 2020 at its Wistron plant located in Bengaluru, according to the reports. And if this report is being trusted then it would be the very first time when Apple is manufacturing one of its most premium handsets in this nation. 

In these days of economic depression due to the ongoing coronavirus has fueled the sentiment of Make in India to empower the native companies. And this step by Apple has definitely added another feather to the mission

The Union Minister, Mr. Piyush Goyal said expressed his support to the move by claiming it as a “Significant boost to Make in India.”

It has been noted that Apple has rapidly stepped up it’s manufacturing on this land. Earlier the company has already manufactured the models of iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPhone XR in this country. 

Mr. Ravishankar Prasad has kept that in mind and went on his tweeter to claim that “Its only a humble beginning.”

Tim Cook who is the CEO of Apple said in May month of this year that manufacturing in India was one of the company’s top priorities. He also said that “I think India is a very important market in the long-term. It’s a challenging market in the short-term. But we are learning a lot. We have started manufacturing there which is very important to be able to serve the market in a reasonable way. And we are growing the capability there.”

The ‘manufacturing in India‘ move is likely to help the company in the reduction of dependency on China in the long-term. Apart from India, Vietnam is also under the company’s consideration as one of its top manufacturing hubs

The Government of India has lately decided to ease some rules and restrictions for its Production Linked Incentive scheme or PLI scheme. Many are assuming that this move of Apple where it has decided to manufacture it’s iPhone 11 in India, might be based on the earlier mentioned government’s decision.

The Indian Government is also in talks with Pegatron, which is one of the top manufacturing partners of Apple for relocating some of its manufacturing units to India. 

 Expectations from iPhone 11 will be ‘Made in India’ 

The local manufacturing of smartphones will save the company from the void of hefty import duty on smartphones. It can be assumed that this would also help the company to keep the prices of the iPhone 11 comparatively cheaper in the near future. And it can also be estimated that the company will move forward its sales through a partnership with e-commerce companies. And to be noted that Made in India units also comes with ‘Assembled in India‘ tag. 

Foxconn’s 1 billion dollars investment!!

The Foxconn plant of Apple is planning to invest up to one billion dollars with a thought of expansion of its factory in southern India. this move is believed to be a part of Apple’s intention of shifting away from the gradual production from China. “There is a strong request from Apple to its clients to move part of the iPhone production out of China,” {Source: Reuters
