Scope of Women Empowerment in India
The term “Women Empowerment” refers to the emancipation of women from socio-economic shackles of dependency. Empowerment of women clearly indicates the power or the authority embarked to women with equal rights.
“India as a society since it’s ancient times has always kept women at par with the other section of society. There were certain areas where women were prescribed or restricted with certain custom laws. These prescriptions were based totally as per the constitution of women’s biology and psyche but sadly over the years the society has made them taboos and used them as tools to suppress women.
Women constitute roughly 50% of the nation’s population and a majority of them remain economically dependent, without employment. In these days and age of feminism a small fraction of Indian women’s are liberated and can exercise their free will and are allowed to carve out their lives the way they want. But there is a huge portion of the women in this country who need positive reinforcement. In major parts of India women are still denied basic education and are never allowed to pursue higher education despite possessing the acumen needed.
Women empowerment beings at the first step of creating awareness about their rights and capabilities they are capable for. We need to reach out to them and convince them that it is absolutely normal to have a voice and that they should open up about their issues be it periods, multiple pregnancies, career choices or just gender suppression in households which goes unrealised but is the greatest silent killer. We also at the same time need to teach our men the necessity of understanding women and nurturing their emotions. We need to build an environment where both men and women are equal and not above or below each other.. only then will we have strong youth with sound minds which would help the growth of the nation.”
When we talk about Social Empowerment of women there are various steps that need to be taken in terms of improving the health of women, reduction in mortality rate, etc. Awareness programs should be organized in order to educate women and to thereby make them strong to face and accept challenges that arise in their way. The various major aspects and elements that are involved in empowering women are Teamwork, communication, Leadership & performance. The process of empowerment is both individual & collective since it is through the involvement of large group there is a better tendency of trust that’s been created in the minds. The most important tool to be used in enhancing women empowerment is communication. In today’s spectrum that is been assigned with different levels it is necessary to create a right communication channel that enables women to gain the best of opportunities and their space to witness and exercise their rights.
Today, we can witness various schemes and Acts that are being put forth by the Government for the welfare and development of women in India. Along with such policies dedicated to women it also necessary for every individual be it men and women to work for the development and empowerment of women.
