In recent highlights, industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata has been assigned as one of the newly appointed trustees of the PM Cares Fund.
The former chairman of TATA Sons is one of the notable personnel nominated to the trust, along with former Supreme Court justice Justice K T Thomas and former Deputy Speaker Kariya Munda.
The Prime Minister’s Office warmly embraced the trustees as an intrinsic part of the PM CARES Fund.
THE MEETING INSIGHTS
The PM Cares Fund meeting was held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.
During the meeting of the trustees of PM Cares Fund, a presentation was made on the numerous initiatives carried out with the aid of the Fund. It also comprised the PM Cares for Children, which supports 4345 children, and was presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The trustees recognized the Fund’s contribution at a critical juncture. It stated that PM Cares Fund has a bigger vision of effectively responding to emergency and distress situations through mitigation actions, capacity building, and providing relief assistance.
Ratan Tata, Justice KT Thomas, a former Supreme Court justice, and Kariya Munda, a former deputy speaker, were named as the newly nominated trustees of the PM CARES Fund during the meeting.
Rajiv Mehrishi, who is the former Comptroller and Auditor General of India; Sudha Murthy, the former Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation; Anand Shah, the co-founder of Teach for India and the former CEO of Indicorps and the Piramal Foundation, were all nominated by the trust to serve on the PM CARES Fund’s advisory committee.
The newly appointed trustees of the PM CARES Fund and the PM CARES Fund, including the Union Home Minister and Finance Minister, attended the meeting.

Former chairman of Tata Sons, an Industrialist, and a philanthropist, Ratan Tata, one of the brightest stars India has ever got, was born on December 28, 1937. PM CARES FUND
On March 27, 2020, in retaliation to the COVID-19 epidemic in India, the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund) was established. The Fund aims to fight the coronavirus outbreak and future pandemic-like crises by containing them and providing relief. Even though the constitution of the Fund’s documents has not been made public, the Government of India has stated that its trustees include Sudha Murty, Ratan Tata, Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh, Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah, and Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman. Additionally, the Fund’s chairman is Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Objectives
The PM Cares Fund’s goals are to provide relief or aid of any sort in the event of a public health emergency or any other emergency or calamity, whether caused by a natural disaster or by human actions. This includes building new healthcare or pharmaceutical facilities, upgrading existing infrastructure, funding pertinent research, or providing any other form of helping hand.
To provide the impacted population with financial support, grants, or money payments, or to take any other actions that the Board of Trustees may think necessary.
PM CARES has a bigger vision for efficiently reacting to disaster and distress situations, including pursuing mitigation steps, building capacity, and providing relief aid.
The Fund is merely funded by voluntary contributions from individuals and organizations and receives no budgetary assistance.
