New Phone? In 2022, save your money DO NOT purchase a new phone!

Mobile phones or the tech field never take a breath. The market always has something new. Something is under development. There is always something to think about. There is always something new to do. But it is upon the manufacturing company if they want to do something new. The PC component industry has been thriving, but it is extremely hard to say the same for the mobile market. In today’s world, there is almost no one left without an Android or iOS in their hands.

Although the competition is at its peak, there is no real innovation in the competition. Unlike the really fun and innovative tech battle between Intel and AMD, the mobile mobile market has remained quiet in the year 2022. With companies like Xiaomi, Redmi, Asus ROG, Samsung, Apple, etc., you would think that the competition is healthy. Well, the simple answer to this is “NO.” The newer generation of mobiles launched in the year 2022 has been underwhelming, to say the least. The phones launched this year have more or less the exact same features that you can find in any 2021 model.

We can all agree that the year 2022 has been a filler year for the mobile market. This raises the question: why has there been no significant upgrade in the mobile market? To understand this, we will have to look into the market’s need for mobile phones.

Why do we need a mobile phone?

Why do we need a mobile? Does it sound like a simple question? Apart from impressing your friends, the need for a mobile has grown drastically over the years. There is no denying that. Today, we not only need mobile phones to call or text, but we also need portability and their ability to come in handy. Today, you can do basically anything anywhere with just the tap of your finger. Mobile phones are like your personal computers, always walking with you. But it still cannot replace the power of a computer system or a laptop.

But mobile are not in the market to replace a computer system. People who use a mobile usually need a handful of features compared to industry professionals. A mobile is required to fulfil some specific needs, including:

  1. A good quality handheld camera
  2. Great user experience
  3. A visually appealing interface
  4. powerful processors
  5. Ample storage
  6. good internet connection.

And at this point, it is pretty safe to say that we get these features on almost every single mobile on the market. So there is actually no reason to insert useless new features into the mobiles. As a result, the companies released more or less the same mobiles in 2022 as there were in 2021. But with the launch of 5G networking next year, in 2023, it will be eye candy for all the mobile enthusiasts out there.

All the mobiles that are set to come out in 2023 need some earth-shattering innovations to make them a viable option. With the launch of 5G networking, this does not seem very difficult. Therefore, in simple terms, if you are, in fact, looking to buy a mobile, just pass on the deals and sales this festive season. The offers are tempting, no doubt, but the value for the money offered is something you will not like.

If you are in dire need of a mobile, the 2021 models provide way better value for money. The prices of the 2021 models are cut for the 2022 “enhanced” models, and the features they offer are, as mentioned above, more or less the same. Hence, the 2021 phones offer much better value for money while saving you a buck or two.

The new phone paradox

If we look at the situation practically, one doesn’t need a phone every other year. So why do companies release a new mobile every year? The generational leap we see in the mobile phone industry usually happens every 3 years or so. It doesn’t make any sense for them to launch new mobiles every year. All the companies, whether it be Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, etc., are frequently accused of rebranding the same old products. For god’s sake, Apple doesn’t even change the design of their iPhones.

Companies tend to make such products to get returning customers. The mobiles are now deliberately downgraded and made with lower-quality materials to make sure that consumers come back to buy a new product! If you think about it, even the warranty period is just limited enough to pass the “new period”.

So, yes, you should wait for the 2023 phones, but will they bring any game-changing improvements? Well, as it turns out, 2023 is going to set a new bar for mobile phone innovations. In the year ahead, expect to see: 200 megapixels cameras in almost all mobiles, mainstream 10x optical telephoto lenses, 300-watt chargers, 3 days of battery life, folding phones under 50,000, iPhones with Type C, mainstream 5G mobiles, and much more.

So, in the end, what you choose to do is upon you, but the fact remains, DO NOT BUY A PHONE IN 2022.
