ShopX, which is a Nandan Nilekani based startup, a business to business platform for all the small retailers has now acquired the omnichannel mobile phone retail startup brand GabbarDeals to power up its expansion plan.
The CEO of ShopX as of now did not disclose the financial details of the deal but said that the quality of the GabbarDeal team and the access to brand partnerships were the primary reasons that drove the acquisition.
“We will use the ShopX technology and GabbarDeals expertise in retail and brand partnerships to expand our presence,” said Sharma, adding that GabbarDeals’ 10-member team has joined ShopX.
Gabbardeals, which focused more on the smaller town for its ecommerce portal venture has a strong offline presence in Maharashtra. It had recorded a gross merchandise value of Rs 1000 crore in five years.
With the acquisition, ShopX has now rebranded the Gabbardeals stores to ShopX Edge, which is a new brand of mobile smartphones that it will roll out across tier I, II, III towns. The company as of now in talks with some of the mobile retailers across the entire country to modernize their business with the ShopX Edge Platform.
GabbarDeals’ chief executive Niraj Raka, who is now head of organized retail in ShopX, said, “We will soon be launching a hyperlocal delivery option where consumers can order their phone online, and we’ll deliver it within two hours, using our stores as a hub.”
