Home Ministry cancels registration of Infosys Foundation

The Home Ministry of India has now canceled the registration of the Bangalore based Infosys Foundation, NGO for the alleged violation of norms in receiving the foreign grants, according to the company officials.
All the Non-Government Organizations are mandatory required to be registered under the Foreign Contribution Act to receive any of the foreign funding.
The Home Minister of India has last year served to show the cause notice to the Infosys Foundation for failing to submit the annual expenditure and income statement on the foreign funding up for six years despite being repeated reminders.
The registration was canceled as the Infosys Foundation allegedly did not file the income and expenditure statement on the foreign funding for the past coming years. As per the guidelines, registered associations are also required to submit the e-docs of an online annual report with the scanned copies of the expenditure and income statement, payment account and receipts, balance sheet, etc. for every financial year within the nine months of the closure of the financial year.
“This (request) was done as the Infosys Foundation does not come under the purview of the FCRA following the amendment made to the act in 2016. We had approached the ministry to consider this, and thank them for granting our request,” said Rishi Basu from the foundation’s corporate marketing and communications division.
