Home Interiors Startup Design Cafe Raises $28.5 Mn

Bangalore-based online interior design startup, Design Café has now secured $28.5 million (Rs. 200 crores) from WestBridge Capital in an equity financing round. The funding round also saw participation from the existing investor Fireside ventures.
Fireside Ventures has been founded by Kanwalijit Singh, the former managing director at Helion Venture Advisors Partners’. It led an undisclosed round in the Bangalore-based startup in July 2017. WestBridge Capital is also an investor in Fireside Ventures.
Founded in the year 2015 by the designers and architects Shezaan Bhojani and Gita Ramanan, Design café offers online customized design and décor solutions to consumers. The startup is currently operational in Bangalore, but with the latest proceeds, it is planning to expand to six new cities including Mumbai, Delhi, NCR, and Hyderabad by the end of 2019.
To ensure 100% consumer satisfaction, the firm deploys a personal design team which first creates a designer home in the 3D or Virtual Reality. It also offers services like budget management, décor solutions, modular kitchens, personalized designs, and home clearing.
In the market, companies like Livspace founded by TPG Growth and BCCL-backed HomeLand are the main competitors of DesignCafe. Moreover, some products and services offered by UrbanLadder and Pepperfry also compete with it.
