Coronavirus Has Left An Indelible Imprint On People – 40% Wont Travel By Air After Situation Normalises

For all the major airlines of the world like Air India, SpiceJet, Jet Airways, GoAir, AirAsia, IndiGo there is bad news. The fear of Corona prevails intensely upon the people. It has left an indelible imprint upon the mind of people. 40 percent of the people will not dare to travel by air for the next six months.

A survey released on Monday by the International Air Transport Association (AITA) has revealed that people with Corona virus ‘Covid-19’ are so scared that 40 percent of people have said that even after situation normalises or even if the airlines guarantee virus free journeys they will not travel for atleast than six months.

Only 14 percent of the international air transport association (AITA) survey conducted on Monday said that they will not wait for air travel. At the same time, about 46 percent say that they would prefer to travel by air after waiting a month or two. The remaining 40 percent say they will think about it only after waiting for six months or more.

Financial constraints are also a big reason

In this survey conducted among people who have previously travelled by air, four percent of the people said that they will not travel at all. Eight per cent have said to wait for at least one year and 28 per cent to wait for six months. People have indicated not to travel for the time being due to financial constraints. 69 percent of the people in the survey said they would postpone air travel until their personal financial situation stabilizes.

Double shock to travellers’ trust

Alexandre de Juniac, director general and chief executive officer of AITA, said that despite the epidemic being controlled, travellers’ trust would suffer a double blow. On the one hand, they will have personal financial concerns about the economic downturn, on the other hand they will also have doubts about the health security. The government and the aviation industry must work together to build trust of passengers.

Why does the fear prevails?

Coronavirus is a group of virus that ranges from common cold, to SAR’s and MERS. This usually circulates in animals and have the capability to transmit into humans. This process is called spillover event.

Coronavirus or COVID-19 originated in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei province in 2019 end. Since then, it has wreaked havoc in the entire world.

The main medium of transmission was airplanes. People from China travelled to the entire world and carried the virus along thus infecting their home countries.

Some reports even show that people didn’t come in contact with the virus in the foreign country but when they returned to their home country, they were infected. This was because the planes they travelled through was badly infected.

Also, the environment in the airplane is extremely conducive for the virus to live. It can survive for up to 19-20 days in the airplane.
