Chandrayaan-3 shares similar objectives to its predecessor, Chandrayaan-2. The primary goals of this mission are to enhance our knowledge of the Moon’s geology, study the presence of water on its surface, and conduct scientific experiments to understand the lunar environment better. Chandrayaan-3 aims to take significant strides toward Creating a long-lasting and eco-friendly presence on the Moon while also setting up a foundation.groundwork for future lunar missions.

Chandrayaan-3 will feature an improved design and configuration compared to its predecessors. The lunar spacecraft will consist of an orbiter, a lander, and a rover. The orbiter will remain in lunar orbit, communicating between the Earth and the lander-rover combination on the Moon’s surface. It will also conduct remote sensing activities to gather valuable data about the lunar environment.

The lander, equipped with sophisticated scientific instruments, will be responsible for a soft landing on the Moon. The rover’s mobility will enable it to explore more extensive areas, facilitating a deeper understanding of the lunar surface.

To accomplish the ambitious objectives of Chandrayaan-3, ISRO has integrated the lunar spacecraft with a powerful launch vehicle. The specific launch vehicle selected for this mission is the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mk III (GSLV Mk III), also known as the “Bahubali” due to its impressive payload capacity.

The GSLV Mk III is India’s most potent launch vehicle, capable of carrying heavier payloads and enabling missions to the Moon and other distant celestial bodies. By utilizing the GSLV Mk III, ISRO aims to enhance the mission’s efficiency and payload capabilities, further expanding India’s space exploration capabilities.

The launch of Chandrayaan-3 is expected from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India. However, specific dates and launch windows are yet to be announced officially by ISRO. The organization meticulously plans the mission to ensure a successful outcome, incorporating lessons from Chandrayaan-2’s landing attempt.

The mission timeline will consist of several critical phases: launch, lunar transfer, lunar orbit insertion, descent, landing, and rover operations. Each step requires precise calculations and meticulous execution to achieve mission success.

The space mission, however, proved unsuccessful in the early hours of September 6, 2023, when the Vikram lunar lander crashed on the Moon, cutting off connection with the base stations.
