BMW M8 confirmed with 600+ HP V8 and AWD
New introductions in BMW’s new 8-series lineup isn’t going to stop anytime soon. Following the launch of the 8-Series Coupe and 8-Series Convertible, BMW has confirmed that the M8 is “en route to series production” and will follow the regular 8-Series in 2019. The company has also released a few pictures of the performance sedan on the track with a fully camouflaged skin.
The M8 will be first launched in the coupe form followed by a convertible and a gran coupe versions. BMW says the M8 lineup will use a “high-revving” TwinPower Turbo V8 engine with an output of “more than 591 hp”, the exact figure is still kept a secret.
The TwinTurbo V8 mentioned here is currently used in the M5 Competition where it produces 617 hp and 750 Nm of torque. The sedan to sprints from 0-100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. The M8 will also get the rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel drive with a 2WD mode available.
BMW says the suspensions of the 8-Series have been “fundamentally reworked” to provide “exceptional directional stability, steering precision and cornering dynamics.” This will be achieved through an even weight distribution, an optimum wheelbase and wider tracks.
BMW has high hopes from the new 8-Series lineup as it marks the new flagship sedan model for the company until, if, the alleged 9-Series makes it way to the reality.
