On Sunday, Democratic archival of the US and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump experienced the second attempt on his life while golfing at the resort in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) corroborated that gunshots were fired close to the golfing area, which led the Secret Service to act swiftly.

According to Steven Cheung, Trump’s Campaign Communications Director, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time. ”

Trump himself quickly reassured his supporters in a direct message, stating, “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumours start spiralling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!”

A man who was taken into custody in connection with this shooting spree has been named as Ryan Wesley Routh, who was reportedly armed with a scoped rifle.

The occurrence happened around 1:30 pm local time when two Secret Service agents noticed the man close to the golf course holding an AK-47.

Some of the agents shot at the suspects, thus neutralizing the danger, while the Trump Campaign headquarters, which is close to the scene, was locked down.

The FBI is now investigating the incident as an “attempted assassination” of the former president.
