Uttarakhand, a Himalayan state in northern India, is well-known for its Hindu pilgrimage sites. The Beatles’ 1968 visit to Rishikesh, a major centre for yoga study, made the city famous. The evening Ganga Aarti, a spiritual gathering on the sacred Ganges River, is held in the city. Bengal tigers and other native wildlife can be found in the state’s forested Jim Corbett National Park.
