Yatra.com is a household name when it comes to looking for travel bookings. It is an online travel website that allows you to search for and book flights and hotels.
The company under great leadership has seen immense growth. Such that it was deemed the 2nd largest online travel platform in India (April 2012) enjoying a 30% share alone of the 370 billion travel-related online market.
Inventiva today brings to you the woman entrepreneur behind this magnanimous entity. Sabina Chopra is the co-founder of Yatra.com and served as the company’s Chief Operating officer of corporate hotels.
She is a lady of multiple talents and truly an inspiration to all budding entrepreneurs.
Chopra’s early life included a BA degree from the University of Delhi. Sabina today boasts of 25 + years of enviable work experience. She has worked as a manager in major corporates such as Hewitt Associates, Japan Airlines and Canadian Airlines.
She went on to head ebookers India, the Indian counterpart of Europe’s largest online travel platform. There, she would be handling a multitude of functions such as air-bookings, company communications, sales and customer service.
Her great corporate background in the travel industry prepped her up for starting a travel company of her own. In 2006, she launched Yatra with the other co-founders. She served as the Vice President of Operations initially. The travel agency started as headquartered out of Gurugram in Haryana.
It went on to become a preferred platform for all Indian tourists alike, raising investments from big names such as the Reliance Venture, Web18 and Intel Capital. By 2011, Yatra had funded 28 million USD.
Creative innovations such as the “holiday-cum-shopping card” in association with the State Bank of India created more press and customer interests.
Chopra was recently appointed to the RCI India as the managing director. She prioritizes RCI’s strategies for the Indian travel market boosting growth.
Chopra herself is extremely well-versed with all facets of the Indian travel industry and the community therein. When it comes to business, she enjoys the travel sector the most. This is because of the mad energy the industry is always buzzing with.
Chopra is a sucker for all things culture-rich. When not working she loves to go for a walk and enjoy the refreshing Bangalore weather. She loves to play on music, dance her heart out and let herself loose. She also believes in giving back to society. She does her philanthropic bit especially for the ‘girl child’ via NGOs.
Chopra says “I always believe in the “Never Give Up” mantra.
She recalls that there was a time when she had to take a break to support her family as the woman of the house. However, this never let her give up on her career.
