Telangana: Committed to SC sub-categorisation, says Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a public meeting organized by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) at Parade Grounds, expressed his commitment to addressing the long-felt need for sub-categorization of Scheduled Castes (SCs) for the purpose of applying reservations. He stated that a committee would be constituted to address this issue, a cause that the MRPS has been championing for decades. Modi also announced support for the ongoing litigation in the Supreme Court related to this matter on behalf of the government of India.

Speaking at the event, titled “Anagarina Vargala Vishwaroopa Sabha,” Modi acknowledged the decades-long selfless struggle of Manda Krishna Madiga, the leader of MRPS, and expressed his commitment to working under Madiga’s leadership for justice.

The Prime Minister’s assurance and acknowledgment reflect the government’s intent to address the concerns of sub-categorization within the SCs for a more equitable application of reservations, demonstrating a collaborative approach with community leaders and organizations advocating for social justice.

The support and commitment expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards the cause of sub-categorization of Scheduled Castes (SCs) evoked strong emotions during the public meeting organized by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS). Manda Krishna Madiga, visibly moved by Modi’s backing, reciprocated by declaring his support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with great fervor, stating, “No BRS, No Congress, No other parties, only BJP.”

During his address, Prime Minister Modi took a critical stance against the ruling BRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) and the Congress, accusing them of betraying and disrespecting Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, a key figure in the drafting of the Indian Constitution. Modi launched a scathing attack on the governance in Telangana, particularly targeting Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). He alleged that the BRS dispensation had failed to fulfill promises made to various communities, including the Madiga community.

Specifically, Modi criticized KCR for not delivering on promises such as providing three acres of land to Dalit families and pointed out flaws in the implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme. According to Modi, the scheme, aimed at providing financial assistance to Dalit families, ended up benefiting only the relatives of BRS MLAs, leading to further dissatisfaction among the Dalit community. The Prime Minister’s speech reflects an attempt to capitalize on discontentment with the current state government in Telangana and garner support for the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the public gathering, accused Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) of involvement in irrigation scams and cautioned the people of Telangana to be wary not only of the ruling BRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) but also of the Congress. Modi labeled both parties as “anti-Dalit” and criticized KCR for demanding a rewrite of the Constitution of India, alleging that it amounted to an insult to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Modi further claimed that the Congress had defeated Ambedkar in elections twice and failed to honor him by installing his photo in the Parliament Central Hall or conferring Bharat Ratna on him.

Accusing the Congress of obstructing the election of Dalit leader Ramnath Kovind and Adivasi leader Droupadi Murmu to the office of the President of India, Modi levied serious allegations against the BRS. He claimed that, with the support of the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) government in Delhi, the BRS was involved in a liquor scam worth thousands of crores of rupees. The Prime Minister asserted that the governments of Delhi and Telangana collaborated not in development but in corruption.

These statements by Modi reflect a strategic effort to discredit the ruling BRS and the Congress, painting them as adversaries of Dalit interests and accusing them of corruption. The allegations are part of a larger political narrative aimed at mobilizing support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Assembly elections in Telangana.

In a strategic move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi juxtaposed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (BRS), emphasizing that the latter were fighting the election for power, while the saffron party was focused on serving and empowering Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). Modi highlighted the BJP’s commitment to social justice and empowerment, drawing a contrast with the purported political motives of the Congress and the BRS.

During his speech, Modi reminisced about working under the leadership of former BJP president Bangaru Laxman and the training he received from him. This reference serves to strengthen the narrative of the BJP’s historical commitment to social justice and the upliftment of marginalized communities.

Manda Krishna Madiga, visibly moved by the Prime Minister’s affectionate gestures, remarked on how Modi prioritized the Madiga community by providing cabinet berths when they had minimal representation in the Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s (TRS) cabinet. Madiga’s emotional response and his declaration of support for the BJP during the public meeting, reflected in the slogan “No BRS, No Congress, No other parties, but only BJP,” indicate a strategic alignment of the Madiga community with the BJP, potentially influencing the political landscape in the upcoming elections.
