Together with his partners and a loan of Rs 75,000, PNC Menon co-founded Services and Trade Interiors and Contracting. The timing couldn’t have been better. Oman was undergoing rapid industrial development, fuelled by its oil boom. Menon’s decision to target high-end clients proved visionary. By catering to the ultra-affluent, PNC Menon positioned his company at the top of the market. Within just eight years, Services and Trade Interiors had outpaced its European competitors, earning contracts to furnish palaces in Oman and even Brunei. Success in the Gulf solidified Menon’s reputation, but his heart remained tied to India.
Bringing Excellence Home
In 1991, Menon returned to India, determined to make a mark in the real estate sector. With a focus on luxury homes and villas, he established Sobha Developers in Bangalore in 1994, naming the company after his wife. From the start, Menon’s approach set him apart. He believed in doing everything in-house—from designing and engineering to manufacturing and quality control. This allowed Sobha Developers to deliver projects of unparalleled quality, on time, and with meticulous attention to detail.
One of Sobha’s earliest landmark projects, Sobha Sapphire, was completed in record time. By 2011, Sobha Developers’ revenues had soared to 1460 CR, with a net profit of 320 CR. The company was not just growing; it was setting new benchmarks for quality and reliability.
