National Technology Day was first celebrated in 1999 by former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It was celebrated to honor Indian technologists, scientists and engineers who had played a significant role in making India technologically advanced.

National Technology Day was celebrated in the year 1999, when India conducted its first nuclear tests in Pokhran in May 1998. In order to endure all those who worked for the successful conduct of this test, Vajpayee celebrated this day with great enthusiasm.

As we have been witnessing, there has been an acceleration in the development and adoption of technology, and undoubtedly, this has affected every area of the society and economy. Some of the important technological changes are machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotics, drone technologies, renewable energy technologies, et al.

On the occasion of National Technology Day, Sampath said that leaders in the tech sector are largely responsible for ensuring that their technologies are not only beneficial but also socially responsible. Navdeep Sharma says that over the period of time, emerging technologies have transformed the world. Technologies such as NFTs are now playing a key role in revolutionizing the entertainment industry.

As National Technology Day is celebrated with different themes every year in India, this year’s theme is ‘School to Startups – Igniting Young Minds to Innovate’. This theme would majorly focus on Atal Innovation Mission which is a government’s initiate to promote “a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across the length and breadth of our country”.
