A piece of good news amid COVID-19: IPL 2020 is happening!

The Indian Premier League 2020 (IPL 2020) is going to start from 19th September, and the finals will compete on 10th November 2020. The 53-day tournament will observe 10-afternoon matches beginning at 15:30 IST, while the evening matches will start at 19:30 IST.

The tournament will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), followed by the matches that will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.

The general guidelines discussed by the Governing Council

The Governing Council has discussed the whole Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that will be finalized and published in due course. It includes the agencies to produce and deliver a bio-secure environment for the safe and successful execution of the IPL 2020 Season.

The Governing Council has reviewed the Player Regulations for replacement players for the upcoming IPL 2020 season.

The Governing Council has decided to hold all its sponsors that include Chinese mobile company Vivo. However, India is focusing on boycotting China after the Galwan Valley land conflict. Let’s hope that the same would be followed in the Indian Premier League 2020.

The Governing Council confirmed Covid-19 replacements in the event to happen in the United Arab Emirates this year.

The BCCI regulations to be followed by IPL franchises

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked all the IPL franchises that no team would leave for the UAE before 20th August. There were stories that both Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are looking ahead to go for Abu Dhabi around August 10 or 12.

“The IPL teams had been directed by an email from the IPL Governing Council that they are not supposed to leave for UAE before 20th August. Now, there is no question of anyone going there before that as the directions are pretty clear here,” IANS quoted a franchise official.

“We have not received the SOPs still, we have been granted the go-ahead to commence preparation, and the visa procedure will start from tomorrow itself. The hotels have already been booked, so that is no issue, and the blueprints are ready,” the franchise official said.

While the BCCI published the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to the state associations for cricket resumption on Sunday, and the IPL teams are awaiting for the same. However, they are beginning the visa procedure from tomorrow (Monday).

The BCCI is hopeful about arranging the complete go-ahead from the government in the upcoming week to relocate the tournament to UAE. “The BCCI has obtained permission from the Sports Ministry, and we are expecting a positive response from the other departments quite shortly as well,” a BCCI official said.

IPL 2020 to be played from 19th September to 10th November 2020

As for the SOPs, the BCCI in a statement said: “The Governing Council has discussed the comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures, which will be finalized and published in the scheduled course that includes the agencies to produce and deliver a bio-secure environment for the secure and successful handling of IPL 2020 Season.”

It is assumed that the team strength in terms of playing members will be 24 in the eight franchises. In another significant decision, the IPL GC has approved the women’s IPL.
