MP logs 10,166 new COVID-19 cases, biggest spike so far
Madhya Pradesh recorded 10,166 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, its biggest one-day spike since the pandemic began, which pushed the state’s infection count to 3,73,518, officials said.
The fatality count rose to 4,365 as 53 patients died due to the infection in the last 24 hours, which is also the highest one-day toll for the state.
In this month so far, the state has recorded 78,007 new cases and 379 fatalities.
A total of 3,970 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, which took the recovery count in Madhya Pradesh to 3,13,459, the department said.
With 1,693 new cases, Indore’s caseload went up to 84,290, while that of Bhopal rose to 63,541 with the addition of 1,637 cases.
Indore reported six deaths, taking the toll in the district to 1,023, while this number of in Bhopal rose to 666 with eight more fatalities, the officials said.
There are 10,351 active cases in Indore at present and 7,314 in Bhopal.
The number of active cases in the state has gone up to 55,694.
As 47,820 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, the total number of samples tested for coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh has crossed 69.20 lakh.

Rajasthan reports 6,658 new COVID-19 cases, 33 deaths
Rajasthan reported 6,658 new COVID-19 cases and 33 fatalities on Thursday, taking the state’s infection tally to 3,87,950 and the death toll to 3,041.
Four deaths each were reported from Bikaner and Kota, three each from Alwar, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jodhpur and Udaipur, two each from Nagaur and Pali and one fatality each was registered in Ajmer, Baran, Chittorgarh, Churu, Jalore and Sikar, according to an official report.
Jaipur reported the highest number of 848 new cases, followed 847 in Jodhpur and 711 in Udaipur.
The number of active cases in the state stands at 49,276.
Kerala reports 8,126 fresh COVID-19 cases, 20 deaths
Kerala added 8,126 new COVID-19 cases and 20 more deaths on Thursday, taking the infection count to 11,97,301 and the toll to 4,856.
A total of 2,700 people recuperated from the disease today, pushing the cumulative tally to 11,28,475.
There are now 63,650 people under treatment and 1,94,808 under observation out of which 8,915 are in isolation wards of various hospitals.
State health minister K K Shailaja said 60,900 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate was 13.34 per cent.
Till now, 1,40,13,857 samples have been tested in the state.
Ernakulam recorded 1,267 new cases followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 800 and Kottayam 751.
Out of those found infected today, 238 reached the state from outside, while 7,226contracted the disease from their contact. “The source of infection of 642 are yet to be traced and 20 health workers are also among the infected,” the minister said in a release.
Currently, there are 426 hotspots in the state.
