Dell Inc. is an American technology company that develops, sells, repairs, and supports computers and related products and services. Dell is owned by its parent company, Dell Technologies.
Dell sells personal computers (PCs), servers, data storage devices, network switches, software, computer peripherals, HDTVs, cameras, printers, and electronics built by other manufacturers. The company is known for how it manages its supply chain and electronic commerce. This includes Dell selling directly to customers and delivering PCs that the customer wants. Dell was a pure hardware vendor until 2009 when it acquired Perot Systems. Dell then entered the market for IT services. The company has expanded storage and networking systems. It is now expanding from offering computers only to delivering a range of technology for enterprise customers.
Until Sometime Ago Dell was ranked number 1 in laptop and computer market share but as per the recent market data, dell has slipped to 3rd position and is continuously loosing its market share.
- Lenovo: 16 million units, 23.5% market share.
- HP: 13.5 million units, 19.8% market share.
- Dell: 10.3 million units, 15% market share.
- Apple: 7.2 million units, 10.6% market share.
- Asus: 4.9 million units, 7.1% market share.
Some new brands like Asus is gaining positions and beating dell in almost everyway.
Before we continue the article further and focus on the issues, lets have a look from a user personal experience with dell.
I had purchased one of the most expensive premium laptop of dell, Dell Alienware in the year 2022 November worth 3,75,000 INR and also paid additional 50,000 for its premium support care pack.
The laptop had the issue on next day when its windows and drivers got updated automatically and laptop sound, screen had some issues.
I took the laptop to the service center in Dwarka and I was told that the laptop has some major issues and the service center guy opened the laptop on the first day itself.
He told me that the dealer will issue the DOA ( Default on arrival) and I will get the new laptop.
I took the laptop to the dealer and dealer told me that you can re-install the windows and the laptop issues will be resolved. He even abused the dell service guys that without having any knowledge of the laptops, why he opened the laptop and why he tried to make changes to the hardware when the laptop can just be repaired by re-installing the windows.
With in 3-4 months the laptop again had heating issues and the dell service guy came and changed the heating sink.
In another 3-4 months the laptop started making very weird loud noise and the service guy again came and changed the heating sink.
After that I again had some issue with the dell performance, its external accessories like laptop mouse which was repaired by the dell.
After 2 months the laptop again had heating issues as well as started making noise and the dell service guy came to change the heating sink.
This time due to lack of technical knowledge the mother board of the laptop got sort and I was told that the entire mother board had to be replaced.
Post that the mother board of the laptop has been changed almost 3 times.
In the month of November and December the laptop again had some charging issues the it stopped charging.
Now since last 15 days my laptop is dead and dell is unable to find any solution for my laptop.
I had already purchased a 3 year premium support plan of dell worth 50,000 INR for 3 years for my Alienware laptop but I really don’t understand, why dell is so reluctant to offer the services.
Major issues that people have faced with dell.
1. The service center has no knowledge about the products, dell has no exclusive service centers, it has outsourced all its service centers to some company TVS which provides services to multiple electronic giants and thus they do not have any in-depth knowledge of products and services of dell.
2. The technical staff of dell lacks knowledge and understanding and they are not at all properly educated and well trained to repair dell products.
3. Even for the minor service, dell source their components which takes more than 7-10 days for the repair and service. This is shocking that a company which claims itself to be the leader of computers and laptops do not have basic components at its service center and it takes more than 5-7 working days to bring the components and repair the laptop.
4. The dell after support service is one of the worst service of any electronic giant compared with ASUS, acer, HP and Lenovo.
5. Dell laptops are overly priced as compared to their rivals where as you can get much better laptops, features in other brands.
6. The designs of dell products are one of the worst, their design engineers do not give specific attention to the laptops. The design flaws in the laptops are strategically done so that the user has to buy a new laptop after every 3 years which increases the sales of their products.
7. Instead of easing the support and service process, dell deliberately makes the service and support process so complicated that, users in the end due to frustration throw away dell products and buy new laptops.
8. Dell Deliberately provided integrated systems like hard disk, ram etc in their laptops so that the laptops can not be upgraded after certain period of time and the user has to buy the new laptop and invest more money in their products.
There are a few more potential disadvantages to consider when buying a Dell computer:

Such unethical and fraudulent activities are making the dell loose its market share and very soon young brands will over take the dell products in the market.
Let us also remind you that some time back, dell also tried to enter into the mobile market with its dell mobile phones range dell aero, dell venue, streak & XCD and badly failed due to lack of technical knowledge, poor designs, poor after sales support, poor quality.
Dell was too much in hurry to enter into the mobile segment and launched their products without any market survey and technical understanding and burnt their hands and now dell is again experimenting the same with its laptop and computer segment and once again burning their hands and loosing its market share.
