After 250 cases and 6 deaths in 11 days due to corona, 12500 passenger trains are canceled for 9 days; 25 million people travel daily in these trains

For the first time in the country, no passenger train will run for 9 consecutive days. The Railway Board took the decision on Saturday after about 250 cases of coronavirus were reported in the last 11 days and 6 people died. According to the railway, only goods trains will run from 22 March midnight to 31 March midnight. Railways run 12500 passenger trains, with an average of 23 million people traveling every day.

The railway runs 9000 passenger trains and 3500 mail express every day. These include long-distance mail / express, intercity trains, premium trains and passenger trains. Earlier, in view of the Janata curfew, the railway had said that no train will run from any station in the country from Saturday midnight to 10 pm Sunday. On Sunday, 2400 passenger and 1300 long-distance express trains were not run across the country. Railways has also ordered Kolkata Metro to be closed from Sunday midnight to March 31. Trains which had started before 4 am on Sunday will reach their destination.

Railways will return the booking fare in canceled trains
Prior to the decision taken by the Railways on Sunday, it was said that the entire fare of the canceled trains will be returned to the passengers. Refunds will be given in 45 days to passengers taking counter tickets. Railways has also decided to provide assistance to those passengers who are canceling the journey themselves despite the reservation in the train. Such people can file a Train Deposit Receipt (TDR) within 30 days from the date of travel. If you miss it, then you can apply to CCM or CCO in the next seven days. Full fare will also be refunded to such people.

12 passengers traveling in trains found infected
The Railways had said on Saturday that 12 people traveling in trains have been found infected. On March 13, 8 passengers were going from Delhi to Ramgundam by AP Sampark Kranti. Infection was found in these. On March 16, 4 passengers going from Mumbai to Jabalpur via Godan Express have been found positive. These passengers came to India from Dubai last week.
