It is so astounding to notice how a few women professionals, experts, innovators, founders, and entrepreneurs have taken over almost every industry in the world. These women could make it huge, thriving off of their passion for doing things in their chosen niches and their commitment to offering uniqueness to their target demographic, ultimately adding more value to their lives.
We got in touch with one such self-made success story in the nutrition realm, the best dietician and nutritionist in Delhi, India, Shivani Sikri, to learn more about her journey and much more.
- Let’s start by letting more about your journey.
I was born on 21st August 1981 in New Delhi, and since my growing up years saw how my maternal grandfather worked as a passionate Ayurvedic doctor, my mother as a gymnast and yoga lover, while my father as a fitness enthusiast and sports lover. From the very beginning, the idea of great health and wellness was ingrained in me. Hence, I guess it was only natural for me to feel more inclined towards the nutrition side of things as I also saw how choosing the right fitness regime and, most importantly, the right nutrition changed lives. My passion and intrigue in nature’s way of healing made me a part of the world of nutrition and wellness.
- You own an Online Weight Management Diet Clinic, Nutri4Verve; why do you think it stands unique from others?
Nutri4Verve is all about personalized intelligent, unique holistic diet programs which help in building great habits, focusing on a holistic and functional nutrition approach, which has made it stand unique from the rest. The team works with clients to better their relationship with food and gain a stronger understanding of how nutrition affects every aspect of their lives. This has made it an Internationally Acclaimed Online Weight Management Diet Clinic in just over a decade.
- How do you think you have changed people’s lives as the Co-Founder and Chief Nutritionist at Nutri4Verve?
As a certified Nutrigenomics Counsellor, certified Naturopath, Research scholar, Columnist, Corporate Speaker, and Awarded dietician, I recommend a combination of Holistic Therapeutic, Functional and Integrative Lifestyle Modification approaches, providing clients with customized metabolic and combination-based nutritionally rich diets. This helps them in fat loss as well as the management of a clinical condition. For this, I recommend people to have the Indian versions of international diets like the Keto diet, Paleo, Intermittent fasting, and more with balanced health and home-cooked meals.
-
What changes do you see coming in the nutrition and wellness industry?
I see major transformations soon approaching the sector, where I see sustainable nutrition as a sought-after diet plan. Also, more plant-based diets will be sought, and even diets that can improve mood, sleep, and cognition.
- What are your recent achievements during and post Covid in the nutrition and wellness industry?
I have recently been presented by an Appreciation Letter in 2022 from Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari ji, for my contribution in the field of health and nutrition.
Also, I have been awarded with Women Healthcare Leadership Award – Dietician for Excellence & Leadership in Healthcare by Golden Aim Awards in May 2022.
- Please discuss your thoughts on Diabetes especially when the Type 2 Diabetes has increased many folds in last few decades especially among children
Formerly called adult diabetes, type 2 diabetes is affecting more and more people, at an increasingly young age, in particular because of the increase in childhood obesity. For these many people, eating takes on a whole new meaning.
Diabetes is on the rise. In more than 90% of cases, it is type 2 diabetes, a chronic disease that leads to high blood sugar (glycemia) either because the pancreas secretes an insufficient quantity of insulin, either because the cells of the body resist the action of insulin. This can have harmful consequences for several major organs, including the kidneys, eyes, heart and blood vessels. Hence the importance of good blood sugar control to avoid these potential problems
- Is it possible to have “just a little” diabetes or when people say they have minimal sugar ?
If a person’s body is unable to maintain normal blood sugar levels, diabetes is diagnosed. There is therefore no such thing as a little case of diabetes, even though there are times when no symptoms are noticeable in day-to-day life, which explains why many people are unaware of their illness. The only difference is that untreated diabetes will eventually cause complications. Along with weight control, taking prescription medications as directed by a doctor, and daily blood sugar monitoring, eating healthily and exercising regularly are essential components of treating diabetes.
- How can we handle diabetes ?
When diabetes is part of our daily lives, one thing is certain: the key to success food goes through knowing the role of food in our body and identifying the different sources of carbohydrates on the menu. It is known that the rise in blood sugar after a meal is directly related to the amount of carbohydrates consumed during that meal. Without being sweet in taste, many foods, including pasta, rice, potatoes, milk and legumes, provide significant amounts of carbohydrates. I usually emphasis to take full care for your diabetes or follow a proper Indian Diet chart for Diabetes patients to evaluate what should be rightfully consumed and foods that should be avoided.
