FIR against ‘Adipurush’ makers by All India Cine Workers Association: What will come as a consequence

Recently on 24th June 2023 Saturday, a piece of news came into the limelight, is All India Cine Workers Association wrote a note regarding a request of filing an FIR against the makers of ‘Adipurush’ now in cinemas, to Home Minister Amit Shah.

What sets the All India Cine Workers Association so upset that they wrote an open letter also to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding a BAN of this ₹500 crore (US$63 million) budget film is its wrong approach that hurt religious values.

Released on 16th June 2023 in big cinemas, Adipurush made a massive opening all over India of India’s epic ‘Ram-Siya’ story in a VFX module. But what has come out? The film has pissed all levels of the patience of ‘The Ramayana’ audience with its inappropriate and harsh dialogues like ‘jalegi tere baap ki’, ‘tumhari lanka laga denge’ and many like these.

The screenplay seems also very poor with not enough VFX qualities, audiences also get disheartened by the wrong conceptual screenplay of Vibhishan’s wife Sarama like a cheap and slavery sexual item and massively trolled for it. Many times on the screen audiences found a mishap of the VFX with poor quality of ‘King Ravaan with his ten cartoon-like heads’ along with his ‘rock star-like sitar play’. Some audiences pretend Meghnaad is mostly like a ‘Tattoo Artist’ but not the great fighter ‘Indrajeet’.

But what makes the Indian audience and Cine workers go crazy, is the dialogue and attitude of Lord Hanuman. According to renowned YouTubers, they saw many audiences claimed to not repeat ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ after seeing the nasty dialogues of Hanuman in this film.

Audiences also delivered that even the iconic Ram and Sita is also not suitable according to the characters as Lord Ram is shown as an ordinary Zamindar of a place and Sita was like an ordinary pretty lady without any strong approach of Devi Sita. So, men audiences showed no respect to the Sita character and often teased the character in the cine theater.

These are may the strong reasons for the All India Cine Workers Association to take this step and force them to write an open letter to PM to ban the screening of the film. Shaktiman fame Mukesh Khanna urged in social media to throw the Film Director Om Raut, Producer Bhushan Kumar T-Series & others, and the writer Manoj Muntasir Shukla in jail to play with our emotions with our most religious epitome. But is the FIR filing and screenplay banning request only done for the religious purpose, or bigger reasons are hiding behind it?

As per Box Office, Adipurush has a collection of Rs 86.75 crore on the opening day in India. On its first Saturday, it made Rs 65.25 crore, and on its first Sunday, it made Rs 69.1 crore. On the other hand, the film’s collections experienced a significant drop on its first Monday, falling by over 75%. On its first Monday, Adipurush’s box office collection decreased to Rs 16 crore.

According to a renowned news article, this Saturday means 24th June 2023 Adipurush has a slight gain in their box office collection. So, now the co-incident is on a Saturday itself the news of the All India Cine Workers Association has come out.

Is it, not an indirect publicity stunt for the film to raise more audiences to the Cineplex? Here, we can rewind the story of Pathaan film in 2023. Before the opening of Pathaan, a song from this film name ‘Besharam Rang’ blew a high controversy as in this song, Pathaan fame Deepika Padukone wear a ‘bhagwa rang’ bikini that hurts many of the religious emotions of Kattar Hindu. This controversy made the film Pathaan more interesting to watch to the ordinary audience, as they thought when one song can bring so much controversy, then how the film would be?

This made a great success at Pathaan at Box Office also, though many film critics and collection reports made a report collection for the controversies to the film. But the fact that we all know and this is Pathaan was a Blockbuster movie with a collection of ₹1,050.3 crores (US$130 million) worldwide and with a record of 543.05 Crore in India.

So, ultimately today, films are earning more with any big controversy or publicity stunt as film directors and producers are aware of the consequences and power of a good and burning controversy. Because we saw this at the time of Padmavaat also, the film was released in 2018.

Throughout its production, Padmaavat was surrounded by controversy. Several Rajput caste organizations, including the Shri Rajput Karni Sena and its members, protested and then vandalized the film sets, claiming that the film depicts Padmavati, a Rajput queen, negatively. Additionally, they assaulted Bhansali on a movie set.

A Rajput caste organization and Hindu groups claim that the movie includes a sexually explicit scene in which the Muslim king fantasizes about having an intimate relationship with the Hindu queen. According to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, there is no such thing as a “dream sequence” in the movie.

But the ultimate result was the big success of the movie and its Box Office collection of ₹571.98 crore

Conclusion
Whatever the movie is now running on Multiplex if they are of a big budget and have some poor screenplay, do not have any strong storyline, not have enough good scripts they run their films with big controversies and publicity stunts. Ultimately, ‘kuch bhi’ for generating giant revenue.

Filmmakers don’t care about the emotions or perspective of the audiences, what they actually want is money and more money. What they have invested they want to regain it with double or triple gain or much as possible by anyhow. It’s just like the Marketing group of a corporate sector and the executives had to fulfill their monthly target.

So, it may happen that Adipurush will gain more profit with these controversies, and it may break the records of Bahubali or Pathaan. Because audiences are continuing to go to watch the film in big cinemas, and makers also removed some dialogue of Hanuman in the film. But what will happen next in this film within the coming weeks, that will be more interesting to see for us. Also, a video is going viral on social media of the movie character Hanuman, showing daily workouts with the Ramayana theme song.

But, in a nation where everyone is familiar with the Ramayana, Adipurush, which should have been a success, has now failed. A box office analyst named Taran Adarsh tweeted that it was “an epic disappointment.”

On Instagram, Virender Sehwag posted a screenshot of his tweet. It reads, “Adipurush dekh kar pata chala Katappa ne Baahubali ko kyun mara tha” (I realized why Katapa killed Baahubali after watching Adipurush).

So, It is totally upon us to the audience what we want to see and what won’t. If we understand once that what is wrong with us, then no makers can push us in any way into their films. We should support the right films with the right approach that enriches our culture, our perspective, and social equivalents.
