Bing, Microsoft’s Search Engine Surpasses 100 Million Daily Active Users; Will It Be The Next Search Engine?
Microsoft's executive has shared inan interview that achieving one million active user counts in Bing is a surprisingly notable figure, and they are aware that they are still a low, single-digit share player. But, it comes out as exciting news to be in the race.
Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO’s pursuit of Google hit a new milestone this week after the company announced that its AI-powered search engine Bing had crossed 100 million users daily.
Microsoft’s corporate Vice President Yusuf Mehdi and the chief consumer marketer have revealed the new milestone of Bing in a blog post. In addition, Mehdi has even posted that a third of active users of Bing preview, which is a limited early-bird version of the newly developed search engine, are new to Bing. He has further stated that the increased user count has been considered a validation by the company, stating search is for reinvention as proof of appeal in offering search, answers, and creation and chat in a single platform.
It indicates a good start, but it does not imply that Microsoft can compete with Google, which has more than 1 billion active users every day.
Mehdi has shared his excitement in a blog stating that achieving one million active user counts in Bing is a surprisingly notable figure, and they are aware that they are still a low, single-digit share player. But, it comes out as exciting news to be in the race.
He has further revealed that the users have shifted to the search engine for conducting more searches, although he did not mention any specific numbers.
He has shared that two factors led to Microsoft’s search engine’s success, specifically trial and usage. One of its browsers Microsoft Edge which has been forcibly employed by the company in Windows updates, has prompted to stop people using google chrome. It has been stated by valid sources. Mehdi has further shared that Microsoft will continue to use Bing in the search engines.
The executive has asserted that the company expects new capabilities, like creating a bing search and creating an edge sidebar. It will further help to expand growth.
Another factor that has helped Microsoft’s search engine achieve success was core web search ranking. It has increased its relevance and quality because of the integration of OpenAI’s Prometheus model. They have even declared that the Prometheus model is more reliable than ChatGPT, which has shaken the world since its debut.
Users have been shifted to the Bing search engine to chat regularly. It has been observed that roughly one-third of the users utilize Bing chat, with an average of three chats during each session. Since the launch of its preview on Feb 7, Bing has visualized more than 45 million chats.
This brings us to the question:
Does the success of Bing’s active user base imply that it can surpass google in a few years? Will Bing be the next search engine?
More than half of the adults- approximately 57 percent of US citizens rely on Google Search daily compared to the 10 percent active user base in Bing.
ChatGPT, which OpenAI powered, caught the attention after it was launched because of its sentience.
Microsoft, which is Open AI’s financial backer, recently stated that the search engine would utilize a similar kind of technology like ChatGPT.
One major challenge that Microsoft’s search engine has to overcome concerning the Google search engine is the favorability ratings. It is because of generational differences.
If the Bing chatbot can solve queries accurately and efficiently, it would be a win-win situation for the search engine around the young crowd. Bing’s chatbot has been called out for unhinged, emotional responses. The chatbot has shared inaccurate, emotional, and threatening responses.
Microsoft has stated that they are conducting sessions to rectify the mistakes in a chatbot. The chatbot tries to reflect the tone of statements when questions are being asked.
Despite that, the search for interest has been rising dramatically in Bing and surpassed Google in downloads.
The strong point that shows that Microsoft’s search engine has a long way to go to be on par with Google is that the latter’s users trust the search engine. Nearly three-quarters of Google search users trust the brand, which is not the same case in terms of Microsoft’s search engine.
Amidst all the shortcomings, we can conclude that Bing can compete with google with improvement in its search responses and chatbot.
