Elon Musk reactivates the former US President’s account, and Donald Trump ignores him on Twitter.
Even though a slim majority of respondents to a poll conducted by Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk supported allowing the former US President to rejoin the platform after he was banned from inciting violence, Donald Trump declared on Saturday that he has no interest in returning to the social media platform.
A little over 15 million people who use Twitter took part in the poll, and 51.8% of them said they should be reinstated. By Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET, Trump’s Twitter account had approximately 100,000 followers.
Trump had over 88 million followers on Twitter before being banned on January 8, 2021. (8:30 AM Monday IST). Some users first complained on Saturday night that they were unable to follow the mended account. Earlier in the day, Trump had given off a lacklustre impression.
When a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting asked the former president if he intended to return to Twitter, he said via video, “I don’t see any need for it.”
The app created by his Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) firm, Truth Social, which he argued had better user interaction than Twitter and was performing “phenomenally well,” was the medium he stated he would continue with. Twitter refused to comment when contacted.
Musk was praised by Trump, who stated on Tuesday that he had always adored him and that he would like to run for president again in 2024. Trump, however, also said that Twitter has “wonderful” problems, such as bots and phony accounts.
Trump’s potential comeback was carefully monitored — and feared — by many of Twitter’s advertisers after Musk initially stated in May that he intended to lift the restriction.
Since then, the billionaire has attempted to reassure users and sponsors that such a decision would be thoroughly vetted by a committee of content moderators made up of people with “widely different opinions” and that no account reinstatements would occur before the council meeting.
He said in his statement that unless there was a “clear means for doing so,” Twitter would not permit any banned users to reapply. Musk did, however, permit comedian Kathy Griffin to come back this week after she had been suspended for breaking his new anti-impersonation policy by changing her profile name to “Elon Musk” and failing to disclose the account was a parody.
No reason to go back
If Trump decides not to attend, major advertisers, who are already alarmed by Musk’s radical restructuring of Twitter, may become less concerned.
The confidence and safety team at the corporation, which is in charge of preventing the dissemination of dangerous content and false information, has seen a dramatic reduction in staff—by half.
Due to these actions and Musk’s tweets, major corporations have stopped running advertisements on the website while they investigate how the platform handles hate speech. Bloomberg reported on Saturday that Twitter may let go of other employees from its sales and partnership units only days after a wave of engineer resignations.
Trump’s commitment to Truth Social, which debuted on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in February and October, would be called into question if he decided to return to Twitter. On Truth Social, Trump has about 4.57 million followers.
Truth Social has been Trump’s main channel for direct communication with his followers since he began posting often on the app in May. He has used Truth Social to back allies, call out rivals, and defend his standing throughout legal investigations by state, congressional, and federal authorities.
But because of his agreement with the company, Trump is now free to take an active role on other platforms. Trump is forced to give Truth Social a six-hour exclusivity on any post, despite being free to post “political messaging, political fundraising, or get-out-the-vote activities” on any website.

Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, declared that Donald Trump’s account had been reinstated following a survey in which a small majority of people agreed with the move.
51.8% of the more than 15 million Twitter users who participated in the poll backed lifting the ban, according to Mr Musk’s post. However, the former US president might not visit the stage once more after saying earlier: “I don’t see any need for it.”
His account was suspended in 2021 due to the possibility of instigating violence. Just a few days after supporters of Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol in Washington, DC, on January 6, Twitter’s previous management acted.

The Republican announced earlier this week that he would run for president of the United States once more in 2024. The world’s richest billionaire, Elon Musk, purchased Twitter for $44 billion (£37 billion) in October.
In response to concerns that he may loosen Twitter’s rules against hate speech and misinformation, he started making a number of significant changes within the sizable social media organization right once.
Just over a week before the US midterm elections on November 8, he posted in response to inquiries on if he would reinstate Mr Trump’s account due to which twitter is creating money.
Earlier this week, he informed the workforce that all good offices will be temporarily shut down, effective immediately. The news comes amid allegations that a sizable section of the staff was quitting after Elon Musk threatened to fire them unless they agreed to work “long hours at high intensity.”
