The company in a statement said that they had role eliminations in a small number and they regularly review their business priorities like all corporations and make necessary structural changes.
In addition the company said that they will keep investing in their business and renting in strategic locations in the coming year.
Although Microsoft has not yet disclosed the number of employees it had fired, according to the United States news website Axios almost 1,000 employees were laid off. The report also stated that employees at various levels and teams around the world were given pink slips.

According to sources, these firings were planned in July itself. Microsoft, led by Satya Nadella, intended to lay off fewer than 1% of its overall staff of 180,000 employees.
