ALLAHABAD BANK was a nationalized Indian bank headquartered in Kolkata, India. Founded in Allahabad in 1865 and nationalized by the Indian government in 1969, the bank offered banking and financial services for 155 years before merging with Indian Bank in 2020. It was India’s oldest operating joint stock bank until its merger.

Allahabad Bank had around 3245 branches in India as of March 31, 2018. During the fiscal year 2017-18, the bank did 3.8 trillion in total transactions. In June 2018, the bank’s market capitalization was $573 million, placing it at 1,882 on the Forbes Global 2000 list. A group of Europeans created Allahabad Bank on April 24, 1865. 

It had branches in Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bareilly, Nainital, Calcutta, and Delhi by the nineteenth century. The equity shares of Allahabad Bank are traded on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India. As of March 31, 2013, the bank employed 22,557 people, with 3,293 of them being women (15%). Officers made up 51% of the overall workforce, clerks made up 30%, and subordinates made up the remaining 19%.

During the same fiscal year, the bank hired 1,950 people (1,421 officers, 390 clerks, and 139 support staff). The corporation spent $20 billion on employee benefits during the same fiscal year. During the fiscal year 2013-14, the business per employee was 13.50 million, with a net profit of 0.477 million.
