Why IPL should be banned in India: IPL has become a hub of Betting, Drugs & Prostitution.

Since May 1, 2004, it has been illegal in India to advertise tobacco products. It is also unlawful to bet on cricket games, but IPL ads are shown more often. So now, the question is why nothing is done about it when ads for such things are illegal or known to be offensive?

India is getting very excited about the Indian Premier League (IPL), and marketers are promoting the event as one of the most significant advertising ecosystems in the whole country. A vast 71 per cent of the viewers and people who answered the survey were polled. During the survey, the viewers said that any Bollywood celebrity or famous face in the streaming ads during the IPL made them much more likely to buy the product.

From the middle of March to the centre of April 2022, iCubesWire, one of the top digital marketing agencies, surveyed 1,000 people about marketing and advertising. The survey also showed that almost 74% of the people who answered said that the streaming ads made them much more likely to buy something while the IPL match was going on.

Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most significant sporting events in the world, and brands are spending a lot of money on advertising to reach their target audience. But it’s clear from the survey that brands still want to get their message out to Bollywood stars and reach their end-users. Many OTT celebrities are also involved in the battle, so this trend will likely continue.

Much progress has been made toward returning to Indian roots in recent years. Seventy-three per cent of people who answered the survey said they would like to see ads for Indian culture and heritage shows. It’s not surprising that COVID changes how people buy goods and services. Seventy-eight per cent of the people surveyed said health care is essential in all healthcare sectors, including health insurance ads during IPL streaming. People are told to put money into their physical health.

But if you look more closely at the ads during IPL, you’ll see that a third of them are about Pan Masala, Gutkha with tobacco in it and betting on cricket.

Bets ads while streaming cricket

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), which is talking about this ad, is worried about online betting sites advertising on Indian platforms. So in 2020, they asked commercial satellite channels to ensure that their ads didn’t encourage illegal behaviour.

Concerns had been raised that ads for online gaming, which includes betting, and fantasy sports, were misleading and didn’t follow the “Advertising Code laid down under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and 2019, Consumer Protection Act,” according to a government advisory sent to “all private satellite TV channels.”

“The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting knows that there have been a lot of ads on TV about Online Gaming, Fantasy Sports, and other similar topics,” the MIB said. So, the Niti Aayog put out a draft of how to regulate online fantasy sports platforms in India and asked the public for feedback.

People have said that online fantasy sports like Dream11, Mobile Premier League, and My11Circle blur the line between sports betting and fantasy games. Because of this, some states with strict gambling laws have made it illegal to play these games. But recent decisions by the High Court say that these are games of skill and not chance, so they do not count as gambling.

During the IPL, pan masala and gutkha ads have nothing to do with betting on cricket. However, plain pan masala ads that keep running in Indian media have been considered fake ads for tobacco products with the same name. So, the point of the study was to find out if the ads were for the product they said they were for or for other tobacco products with the same brand name.

A famous Hindi news channel’s show was watched for 24 hours straight. The same channel and its English version were then watched on different days to see if the ads were shown more than once. The cost of advertising for a famous brand of plain pan masala (Pan Parag) was found by multiplying the whole telecast period by the fee charged by the station.

The annual sales value of the plain pan masala product was found by multiplying the total sales value of the company by the percentage of people who use simple pan masala instead of gutka plus pan masala, which was found in a different study. Plain Pan Parag was expected to make Rs. 67.1 million in sales yearly. It was thought it would cost Rs. 244.6 million per year to advertise the same product on two TV channels. Indian TV ads for plain pan masala are for tobacco products with the same name.

How much do these ads for bets and Pan masala cost?

Advertisements for online gambling and pan masala cost Rs 18 lakh per second. The price has gone up from Rs 13 to 14 lakh. But now the question is why things that are illegal or against the law in the country are being pushed. Also, using famous people’s faces in these ads is a sure sign that they will be effective. Are these ads trying to get these companies to make more money or get more customers? During IPL, betting and pan masala ads might give someone a good impression.

Intelligence agencies think the IPL 2022 games were “rigged,” and they want an investigation: Leader of the BJP Subramanian Swamy.

Subramanian Swamy, a senior member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said on Thursday that the intelligence agencies think the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 matches were “fixed.”

The former Union Minister also said an investigation is needed to clear the air. Still, he said that the government wouldn’t do it because Jay Shah, the son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is the “de facto dictator” of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Hardik Pandya’s 34 runs and three wickets helped the Gujarat Titans beat the Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad. This was the Gujarat Titans’ first time in the IPL.

Rajasthan had to work hard with the ball to get back into the game after setting a low target score of 131. Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna, both fast bowlers, did a great job with the ball during the powerplay. They got Wriddhiman Saha (5) and Matthew Wade (8) out of the game, bringing Gujarat’s score down to 31 for 2.

But Shubman Gill’s safe runs and David Miller’s quick 32 runs not out helped Gujarat win easily in the penultimate over. Opener Gill stayed unbeaten on 45, and his six sealed the win for Gujarat.
