We will review the situation in the next 8-10 days and then make further decisions on the lockdown.
The statement by the Deputy CM of Maharastra, Ajit Pawar, comes hours before CM Uddhav Thackeray addresses the state this evening.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, told the public in his address on Sunday that as long as the people can take preventive measures, the state government is willing to take responsibility.
Besides this, although Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that the COVID-19 situation in Mumbai has been fully controlled, but data from the last two days show that the number of positive cases has steadily increased.
Medical experts warned that the sudden surge in the number of COVID-19 after Diwali may be due to reverse migration and other factors. Experts say that people need to be more cautious, and the time from Diwali to New Year is crucial to Mumbai.
Earlier this week, Aaditya Thackeray, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister, and BMC Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) held a review meeting, with other municipal commissioners and collectors to assess the deadly virus situation in Mumbai.
Thackeray said that the administration is taking measures to ensure that the third wave of coronavirus does not hit Mumbai.
Every government official and minister are reviewing the situation and trying to ensure that the third wave of COVID-19 disease will not hit Mumbai.
Even if it does, we should be fully prepared for this. We have enough oxygen cylinders, ICU beds, and ventilators, to deal with this situation. In addition to this, we are working to prevent and learn as much as possible about the coronavirus protocols, especially the use of masks, he stated.
He further added that before the emergence of the COVID-19 vaccine, masks are the most effective preventive measures against the deadly COVID-19 disease.
As cities unlock, we are seeing the crowd swell again, but everyone should wear a mask and make sure to follow social distancing norms.
