FACEBOOK UPDATE: Now Users can Merge Instagram and Messenger Chats

Last year we heard about Facebook’s claim of replacing the Instagram Direct with Messenger chats and now it seems like the social media giant has made up its mind and is indeed looking forward to do the merger. The United States is already enjoying Instagram and Messenger chat merger.

With the latest update of Facebook, the app will be offering a merge of Instagram and Messenger chats. The feature permits Instagram and Messenger users to chat across both platforms conveniently. This updated feature is a cross-chat of sorts and according to The Verge, it will be available to Android and iOS users real soon.

This step of Facebook’s efforts could pull individual products and apps closer to each other. In the last 2 years, the company re-branded Instagram and WhatsApp for increasing users’ awareness that the apps are owned by Facebook, and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mark Zuckerberg has announced his plans of integrating all the company’s messaging services.

With this latest update, to comfort the Instagram users by allowing them to send messages across the Facebook Messenger platform, Instagram offers users an option to merge its chat feature or direct messages with Facebook Messenger

“There’s a new way to message on Instagram” was the notification that was received by users who saw the updates for integrating the messaging apps and was showing the logos of both Facebook Messenger and Instagram. Choice lands on the hands of users whether they want to merge the two messaging services or they can opt the option of declining the update and continue the way it is.

The Verge noted that however, despite getting the update, it is still not possible to message Facebook users from Instagram. The updated version will be showing the Messenger logo instead of Instagram’s DM logo and will be more colorful, according to the same report.

The new update not only combines the chats from Instagram and Messenger but also brings in features from Facebook Messenger to Instagram. This update adds some of the options which were previously available on Facebook Messenger, including colorful chats, reactions with any emoji, and swiping to reply to individual messages.

Mark Zuckerberg who is the CEO of Facebook, had announced the integration of the social network’s messaging services including Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger, a one cross chat functionality app by the year 2020. The use of end-to-end encrypted services with the integration of these apps, over privacy concerns, was a thing that was emphasized by Zuckerberg.

Facebook bought Instagram in the year 2012 for 1 billion dollars and WhatsApp in the year 2014 for 19 billion dollars. Now, Facebook’s latest update of enabling a cross chat functionality with Messenger and Instagram might prove to be the stepping stone for unifying the services. This move could let the social networking giant tout higher user engagement to advertisers, and further ramping up its advertising division. If this merger of Messenger chats and Instagram achieves success, we must be witnessing this unification across all the three apps (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger) soon. Those who have already downloaded the new update are enabled to chat with their friends on Facebook.
