HEALTH ID FOR EVERYONE: National Digital Health mission

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Digital Health Mission on the eve of the 74th Independence Day, which would reduce the challenges faced by people in medical services. Under the program, every Indian will get a health identification and every Indian’s health records will be digitally stored.

PM Modi, during his speech to the nation from the Red Fort ramparts, said the initiative would bring about a ‘revolution’ in the country’s health sector.

A new initiative is expected to commence in the country from today. This is the National Journey to Public Health. The National Digital Health Plan will bring about a new change in India’s health sector, “said the Prime Minister.

Each Indian will get unique health identity

PM Modi has said that every Indian would have a unique identification number under this system. This should include all details relating to their wellbeing.

“One Health ID would include the details about each examination, each condition, which drug you have been given by the doctor, what the results were,” Modi said.

The health ID will include a full medical history of individuals, all the documents will be added to this ID, from medications to investigative papers. For a fact, medical institutions, schools, hospitals, and physicians can all be put to a single network.

The advantage of this program would be primarily on the people living in far-flung areas, where there are far fewer health services.

How special is Safety ID?

There will be many aspects of this safety Tag. It will have complete health records of a person’s life, including when he is suffering from which disease when he is being treated, what medicines the doctor has prescribed, which tests have been performed, and what their results have been.

Therefore, the next time the patient returns to a clinic or hospital, he’s not going to have to take any of his notes, clinic slips, it’s going to be enough to have this insurance card. The doctor will only be able to see the patient’s entire personal history with the exclusive Health Card number. Each time a person goes to the hospital, the details will be registered in the health care, and whoever takes the medication or gets treatment does.

Which was the initial Medical Identification proposal?

The National Health Policy 2017 envisaged the development of an eco-system for digital health technologies that seeks to build an interconnected health information system that meets the needs of all stakeholders and increases quality, accessibility, and the interaction of people with public and private healthcare connections. In the sense of this, Niti Aayog, a think-tank of the central government, launched a new infrastructure workshop for India’s health sector National Health Stack in June 2018.

Which programs can communicate with National Health ID?

As anticipated, numerous healthcare facilities such as hospitals, clinics, insurance agencies, electronic pharmacies, telemedicine firms are expected to engage in the patient identity program. The policy summary paper points out that whilst there would be the possibility of digital health identity if an individual does not want health identity, then care will still be authorized.
