Queen-Bee of Quintessential Prints

Having lived a surreal life in fashion industry, ace designer Masaba Gupta is not only known as a kindred soul, but also as an entrepreneur, who has the clear understanding of her aesthetic and her market better than many others in the run. She possesses a PAN India presence has gained the fame for creating a niche and youthful market for her exquisite saree prints. Inventiva has noticed that, Gupta has been viewed as a pioneer by the design society and with armies of supporters on the web, is a true blue digital stars.

Beginnings be like….

At 29, Gupta has been a talk of the town with regards to her exquisite designing and is also counted already as one of the most popular names in the Indian fashion industry. But, to the amazement of many, Gupta claim to fame wasn’t a planned one, she became a designer by chance. Beginning at 19, her bold prints and kaleidoscope of colours turned many heads. Debuting at Lakme Fashion Week and that too at the age of 19 has been a milestone for the queen of fashion.
Being interviewed by a very famous publication, Gupta spilled the beans, “I started receiving a lot of acknowledgements and appreciation from a very young age. In the fashion industry, it is at least a 15-20 year journey before you can establish yourself as a designer.” Her prints haven’t been just ruling the flock but, the footfall towards her designs increased when she opened her own store, House of Masaba. Owning close to five stores in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune, her flagship store in Hyderabad is a direct reflection of her Indo-Caribbean background. “My mother (famed actress Neena Gupta) has been an inspiration for me to foray into designing as I never had a flick for it. I just wished to wear trendy clothes and look different,” says Gupta.

Spreading her wings across


Masaba is an extremely practical lady who thinks candidly with regards to featuring her work on different platforms and being applauded for the same. According to Gupta, the world hasn’t understood the capabilities and potentialities of India yet as a fashion destination, all Gupta believes that someday India will rise among the main five players with regards to purchasing power in years to come. Whatever the impression of India about style on the planet was, it has advanced far and one of the main reasons for this has been internet.

Further, the mistress of monochrome is planning on a full spree onto experimenting her bridal collection as she plans towards focusing on a fixed audience, whereas until now, she has been in a hit-and-trial mode, unaware of her target audience. Besides, she has also layed her hands on affordable stationery, a cheap pair of socks, costing mere INR 300, vanity pouches and gifting products.
